Terms of Use

These terms apply to the apps, websites and online services (account, sync, weather, starting position) that Noctua Software Limited, trading as Stellarium Labs (“we”), publishes under the Stellarium name, and to the online services that the desktop program Stellarium uses. By installing or using them you accept these terms; if you do not, do not use them. The desktop program Stellarium itself is free software under the GNU GPL; its licence, not these terms, governs the program. Last updated: 3 November 2026.

1. Who we are

Noctua Software Limited, trading as Stellarium Labs, incorporated in Hong Kong (Companies Registry number 1676103, Business Registration number 59113426), Unit G, 15/F, TAL Building, 49 Austin Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Support: [email protected] . Legal matters: [email protected] .

2. What the products do

They are planetariums: they show the sky from any place at any time. Depending on the product they can use your device’s sensors to point at the sky, the camera for augmented reality, your location to set the observing site, and Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to control a telescope. Some data and features need an internet connection. The products work on the devices and system versions listed on their store page or site. We may change, add or remove features to keep the products working, secure and up to date; features that depend on our servers or on third-party data can change or stop if those sources change.

3. Paid features

Our mobile apps are free to install, show no advertising and offer paid features listed in the app’s upgrade screen. Depending on the platform you get them by buying the paid edition of the app, by a one-time purchase in the free app, or by a monthly subscription in the free app, which may start with a free trial. A purchase unlocks the paid features on the store account you bought it with, on all your devices signed in to that Google or Apple account. Purchases do not transfer between Google Play and the App Store. Our VR app is bought once on the Meta store. Our web app is free.

4. Prices and payment

Purchases go through Google Play, the Apple App Store or the Meta store, with your store account. The price is the one shown in the store at the moment you buy, in your local currency, taxes included or added as the store shows. Prices differ by country and can change; a change never applies to a purchase you have already made.

5. Subscription

The monthly subscription renews automatically every month at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel. If a free trial is offered, you are first charged when the trial ends unless you cancel before it ends (on iOS, at least 24 hours before). You can cancel at any time in your Google Play or App Store subscription settings; you keep the paid features until the end of the period you paid. If we raise the price, the store tells you in advance and the new price applies from the next renewal after that notice, or after your consent where the store requires it.

6. Right of withdrawal and refunds

If you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may withdraw from a distance purchase within 14 days without giving a reason.

The paid edition, the one-time purchase and the VR app are delivered at once: by buying, you agree that delivery starts immediately and acknowledge that you then lose the right of withdrawal.

For the subscription you may withdraw within 14 days of subscribing, including during a free trial; if you were already charged, you are refunded less the part of the month you used.

To withdraw, ask the store for a refund or write to [email protected] . Refunds are otherwise handled by the store that took your payment, following its refund process. Beyond that, if something is wrong, write to [email protected] and we will try to help, including a refund where it is fair.

If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the law gives you rights when digital content does not work as described: a fix, a price reduction or, in the European Union, for a serious problem, a refund. Nothing in these terms limits those rights; sections 10 and 11 apply only as far as the law allows.

8. Your licence

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the apps on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, through the store you got them from, and to use the web app in your browser. You may not copy, sell, rent, redistribute or sublicense the apps or their data, bypass the purchase or licence checks, or remove notices. The apps and their contents, including sky data, images, texts and translations, belong to us or to our licensors; the credits in each product name the data sources and their licences.

9. Account and your data

You can create an account to keep your observing lists, observations, equipment and places on our servers and see them on all your devices. Give a valid email address and keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what is done with your account. You can delete it at any time in the product; this deletes the data kept for it. How we handle personal data is explained in our privacy policy .

10. What we are not responsible for

Positions, times, visibility and weather are computed from models and public data and can be wrong. Do not rely on them where a mistake could cause harm, such as navigation, aviation or safety decisions. Telescope control depends on your equipment; follow its manufacturer’s safety instructions, especially around the Sun.

Apart from section 7, we are not liable for indirect losses such as lost data, time or profit, and our total liability for a purchase is limited to what you paid for it. This does not apply to death, personal injury, fraud or gross negligence, or where the law does not allow it.

11. Third-party services

The products use services from Google, Apple, Meta and other providers, for example for payment, weather and data. Their own terms apply to those services.

12. Ending or suspending access

You may stop using the products and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, in particular if you tamper with the licence or purchase system or misuse our servers; in that case you are not refunded, except where the law requires it.

13. Changes to the products and to these terms

We may update the products and these terms. For an important change we tell you in the product or by email at least 30 days before it applies; if you do not accept it, stop using the product and cancel any subscription before the change applies. If a change makes the paid features clearly worse for you, you may end your purchase within 30 days of the notice and be refunded for the time you have not used. The version that applies to a purchase is the one in force when you bought.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of Hong Kong. If you are a consumer in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another country with mandatory consumer protection rules, you keep the protection of those rules and may bring a claim before the courts of the place where you live.
